FF30

Hello and welcome to my blog.

Okay, not much to say. Number of up signals has declined. Still working out which data to use and present. Holiday Friday, maybe a chance to catch up and sort a few things out. Kind of miss looking at the down signals. Not wanting to short but wanting the balance thing.

Thank you for your time.

FF29 Spreadsheet Link

Hello and welcome to my blog.

Remember the spreadsheet has been changed. A lot less up early signals but still a lot of up watch and green up alerts.

Some of the previous BoxTop entries have worked out, some have not. There are a few more to look at today. Still making changes and trying to work out how this indicator can be used.

8600 on the Dow looks like possible overhead. Too bad it is not a nine number. This area may turn out to be a right shoulder of a small head and shoulders pattern. Most of the time we see what we want to see. Wait and see how the future unfolds.

Thank you for your time.

FF26 Spreadsheet Link CHANGE

Hello and welcome to my blog.

The spreadsheet link for FF26 is below. This is not a recommendation to buy or sell any of the stocks listed. Due diligence is your responsibility. If you need professional investment advice then find a professional.

Today a change was made in the spreadsheet and I will have to see just how much of a change it makes. Gone are all the down signals. Only the up signals will be shown. There are now the usual 4 signals ranging from...Early, Watch, Alert, and BoxTop.

Perhaps the market has gone crazy or maybe it is me. The number of signal entries is very large in each category. One reason may be the so-called mythical summer rally. Hmm. If you sell em in May and go away why bother with a summer rally. The market is full of...well...just say full of.

The introduction of the BoxTop was to add the element of trend to the trading signals I have been using. Oscillators do just that, oscillate. So, you can go back and forth and get caught on the wrong side when the stock actually begins a trend. My hope is to monitor the oscillator and ignore all signals until they are confirmed by the trend signal.

See what happens.

Thank you for your time.

FF25 Spreadsheet Link

Hello and welcome to my blog.

The spreadsheet link for FF25 is below. This is not a recommendation to buy or sell any of the stocks listed. Due diligence is your responsibility. If you need professional investment advice then find a professional.

Market go wild, spreadsheet go wild, everything go wild. I certainly picked either a good or bad time not to include the up early signal. Today it produced about 180 entries. Far too many to even start thinking about. In the lonely down early column only 1 entry. A possible hint of a rally ahead or perhaps just a head fake with a whippy indicator.

On the published spreadsheet the ups clearly had the upper hand. So it is back to looking at where the overhead resistance might come in. I am sure that some folks out there are looking at a possible head and shoulders pattern in the Dow. The right shoulder just beginning to form now.

There are a fair number of entries in the Box Top column. I am still not comfortable with using this method and as with any tool or guide there are nuances to be learned. For now I am just keeping the list and seeing how the entries perform over the next couple of weeks. Will keep fixing up the bus as it rolls down the road and see what the future brings.

Thank you for your time.

FF24 Spreadsheet Link

Hello and welcome to my blog.

Still looking for resolution in the middle middle with the Dow. A heck of a lot of up early signals but this is balanced somewhat by the orange down alerts. Not as many of the orange down alerts as of late but still a few.

Starting tomorrow I will change the signals presented in the columns. The up/down early signals are too whippy and present too much confusion. Better if not included. The Box Top signal will be included but is still a work in progress. Will have to decide whether to just go with the canned versions or work out a modified one.

Today there are 8 entries in the Box Top column. After a quick look at them I do not like any. Mostly because they have already had large moves and perhaps have already shown their best sides for the time being.

I am still working out a lot of changes and hope to find the time in the next week or so. I am still of the conviction that the Darvas Box is a good thing to include in my technical tool box.

Enough for now.

Thank you for your time.

FF23 Spreadsheet Link

Hello and welcome to my blog.

Like one of the days last week some very mixed signals. A large number of orange down alerts offset by an equally large number of up early signals. Again a question of who is the stronger of the two. Last time the down alerts won the battle. This time, as always, do not know the outcome. To make a guess, I think down. It takes buying to move stocks up, while they can fall on their own weight.

The Dow sits in the middle of the middle. 9000-8100=900. Middle at 8550. 8550-8100=450. Middle 8550-225=8325. May see a hold at this level, plus one of those little Japanesee decision things on the chart today. This is all just fun with numbers and will wait to see what reality brings.

I mentioned the Darvas Box yesterday and have decided to pursue it. Yep, more work. Have to pull the bus tool kit out and see what I can come up with. Of course the bus is still moving.

I will have to examine the MetaStock formulas for Darvas available on the net so I am not just using something because it is there. Two versions are presented. I will probably modify them so that the day trigger counts are a little different. This modification is based on this article:
http://www.moneybags.com.au/article.asp?id=331&a=0 and it is well worth the read.

Darvas Box, along with all other systems, is not a magic formula. It is simply a tool or guide. I do think that using it in conjunction with the other indicators I have will be a huge bonus. Any future signals from the stuff I already use will have to be confirmed by the Box.

I will post a couple of charts once things get sorted out. The last couple of days have been spent just going over the charts and signals to see if the Box stuff made sense. On enough occasions it made a lot of sense. Time to go, the bus is making some bad noises.

Thank you for your time.

FF22 Spreadsheet Link

Hello and welcome to my blog.

The spreadsheet link for FF22 is below. This is not a recommendation to buy or sell any of the stocks listed. Due diligence is your responsibility. If you need professional investment advice then find a professional.

The market answered for who will win between the orange down alerts and the up early signal.
At least for today the orange down alerts won. There are two columns of orange down alerts and no green up alerts.

The Dow left the middle at 8550 and headed towards 8100. Will have to see if this nine square number comes into play again.

I do not know why but I started to look at Darvas box stuff in the past few days. I read the book years ago and played a little with the code at Wealth-lab.com a few months ago. I may start looking at using it in MetaStock but I am not sure. Will have to review the information and see what it looks like on the charts. It may become the main signal with confirmations by the stuff I am using now. See how it goes. The book is available on-line through Wikipedia.

There is also an on-line site here: http://www.sethi.org/investments/darvas/sbp_java.phtml
if you want to plug in some stocks and see what the boxes look like.

Another day of very mixed signals. Could almost be a duplicate of yesterday. Very large number of up early signals, see if they move to the up watch column, and a very large number of orange down alert signals. I have to wonder which set of entries is stronger, the up early or orange down alerts. The market will answer.

Dow sits around 8550, halfway between 8100 and 9000. Perhaps June will have the same sideways look of May but only at a higher level.

Thank you for your time.

Late and tired. But the beat goes on. Again a large number of orange down alerts with only three green up alerts. One big difference is there are a large number of up early signals. This signal can be whippy and tends to be early but it may be fore shadowing at least a pause. Will have to wait and see if the up early entries make it over to the up watch column.

Thank you for your time.

The down signals continue. A large number of orange down alerts, two columns worth. Only two green up alert signals.

Perhaps too many downs and at an extreme pendulum point. May mean a bounce. My guess is still that the Dow will head down towards 8100. See what happens.

Color me down. Pretty much down signals across the board and only a tiny number of up signals.

Perhaps a move to 8100 on the Dow is in the cards. Going back to the basic nines 9000 becomes resistance, the 8100 level would be a target support area. The half-way point would be 8550. Just spots to watch, that's all. My guess is a shot at 8100 is in the works. Would then have to re-evaluate if this occurs. See what happens.

Down signals still continue to rule. There is a fairly long list of orange down alerts versus only one green up alert. A lot of times I would take the large number of down signals as a counter sign. The pendulum having swung too far to an extreme. This time, and only guessing, it feels like a larger down move is in the offing. Have to wait and see.

Once again lots of down alerts. However, there are fewer than in the last few days. Can only have so many until most of them are covered.

Sideways continues with the Dow and when everyone is asleep it will probably do something. A watched pot never boils, an unwatched pot boils over.

Sideways world, waiting it out. My own guess continues to be for a down move. See what the future brings.

Down signals continue to dominate. Lots of down early and down watch. The number of orange down alert signals is also continuing to grow.

Another day of the Dow making a little Japanese decision candle. The future direction is only known by the market. My best guess, given the dominance of down signals, is down. Stay tuned for the eventual outcome.

The tide turns back to the down signals. A large number of early down and down watch signals. Green up alerts and orange down alerts about even and not that many on either side.

Dow pausing and seems to be deciding what could turn out to be a new resistance level. As always wait and see what the market decides.

The tide has turned, at least for the down early and down watch signals. More of these than their up signal counterparts. More green up alerts than orange down alerts.

Some may call the recent breakout a bull trap. Have to wait and see. Pause down maybe for a test of the May range breakout. The resistance change to support thing. Have to wait and see.

Party on dudes. Oy. Sell em in May. Hmm. Large number of up signals. Early, watch and alert. Have to see if the party continues.

I have not had a lot of time to work on the market. I wanted to bail from using Reuters because of cost and lack of what I got for the price I paid. So, I have been spending time looking for a new data vendor. Wasted a couple of days on a freebie and then gave up and got a software program.
So far so good. They are: http://www.1free-historical-stock-quotes-downloader.com/
Once I get things settled in I should have more time to scroll through the charts and organize things in a much better manner.
